About Me

My photo
Sewing and cooking are two of my favorite things. In the past, I often found myself searching for pictures and details of projects I have done, without success. So I decided to start documenting my creations. Then my son suggested I add my recipes to the blog so that they are documented also.

Another Kitchen Appliance - Just What I Needed

For quite awhile I have resisted even considering buying an Air fryer. In fact I wasn't even tempted to look into what they do. I'm actually trying to pare down my kitchen gadgets and appliances. But then fate intervened! I was visiting my daughter and her boyfriend made wings in the air fryer. I'm not a big fan of wings but my hubby is, so I have tried various recipes to bake wings but none have gotten a second chance. Now these air fried wings set me off to research what type and size of air fryer I needed.

After considering how I would use the appliance, I decided we probably needed a larger one so I could do a whole chicken or a dozen of whole wings all at once. I selected the GoWISE 5.8 Quart Air Fryer that came with a cookbook, several pans and racks. The only down side to a large one is, well, it is a large appliance. I really don't want it taking up counter space all the time so I cleaned out a shelf on the pantry; its close by and easy to get out but not taking up valuable space when I am not using it.

The first food we made was breaded porkchops. They looked great and were very tender but we missed the moist breading on fried chops, the breading was just too dry. The next time we just air fried the chops and we prefer them this way, just plain tender.

The night we made a whole chicken in 50 minutes we realized that if we used it for nothing else, this air fryer was worth buying. Then we made wings and can easily make them any night we want.

Of course we have also tried frozen French fries and frozen egg rolls. Yep both of these look great and taste better than in the oven. This large fryer can make a whole pound of frozen fries at one time!

So after owning the air fryer for about 3 weeks, I am a convert. I am able to make fried food without any oil and it tastes good. Heck one night when it was 30 degrees out and just too cold to grill out we did T-bone steaks in it. Plus the clean up is a breeze!
